Researchers are looking at how sleep, thinking patterns, and brain functioning may be related to eating and/or weight status in children.
Developing healthy sleep, eating and activity habits in childhood can help children get a healthy start in life.

The purpose of these studies is to better understand factors that may be involved in eating and weight problems in children in order to improve prevention and treatment. Join our studies and learn more about how to help your child live a healthy life!

Why are these studies being done?
The purpose of these studies is to better understand factors that may be involved in eating and weight problems in children in order to improve prevention and treatment.
Are these studies for me?
Your child may qualify for these studies if they meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Your child is between the ages of 7 -13 years old
  • Your child has a BMI at or above the 75th percentile
  • Your child is right-handed
  • Your child can read and understand English fluently
Exclusion Criteria:
  • Your child has a serious medical condition that results in appetite or weight changes
  • Your child is currently taking medication that effects appetite or weight
  • Your child has a current or past diagnosis of bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa
What will happen if I participate in these studies?
Study participation involves several clinic visits.

Clinic visits involve having height and weight measured and completing questionnaires and a semi-structured interview. Some studies involve undergoing an MRI scan while viewing different pictures. Some studies involve keeping sleep diaries and responding to text messages that include questionnaires and cognitive tasks at intervals throughout the day. Some studies involve clinic visits over a 2-year period. Participants without a smartphone will be loaned study-provided smartphones for the duration of their participation. Participants will be compensated for each study visit and for study activities in exchange for their time and effort.
Will I be paid for being in one or more of these studies?
Compensation is provided at each study visit. Participants will receive $25 – 75
per study visit.
Will it cost me anything to participate in these studies?
There is no cost for you to participate in these studies.
