About this research study:
Help researchers learn more about the effects of a new behavioral therapy designed to increase positive emotions in people experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression.
Researchers hope their findings will lead to improved treatments for depression and anxiety.

Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups. One group will complete activities designed to increase positive thoughts, behaviors and emotions. The other group will complete exercises designed to help manage stress. Both groups will complete survey assessments, computer and behavioral tasks, and MRI brain scans before and after treatment.

Why is this study being done?
The Department of Psychiatry at UCSD is conducting this study to examine the effectiveness of this new behavioral treatment designed to improve positive emotions, behaviors, and related brain functioning in people who experience feelings of anxiety or depression.
Is this study for me?
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Experiencing anxiety or depression
  • 18 to 55 years of age
  • Not taking psychiatric medications
  • No history of a major head injury
  • Able to have an MRI scan
What will happen if I participate in the study?
The study involves:
  • Clinical interviews & questionnaires
  • There are three inperson appointments
  • Computer tasks & behavioral measures
  • Behavioral Treatment
  • MRI scan of your brain

Parts of this study will be completed in-person and others may be completed remotely.
Will I be paid for being in this research study?
Compensation of up to $240 is provided for participation in this study.
Will it cost me anything to participate in this study?
There is no cost for you to participate in the study.
