Study Background
The majority of new young adult smokers initiate with a menthol cigarette. Menthol cigarette smoking is linked to a greater likelihood of progressing to regular smoking and nicotine dependence.

Menthol’s pleasurable taste and other sensory effects (cooling /soothing sensations in the throat) may contribute to a positive first smoking experience, which could link initiation with uptake and regular smoking.

Our researchers want to know how a menthol ban could alter smoking behavior in young smokers.
