About this research study:
Researchers are conducting a study to understand the impact of flavor and nicotine concentration on smokers.
In recent years, vaping rates have increased dramatically -- with an estimated 8 million people using them today. E-cigarettes are now the most frequently used tobacco product among young adults.

This University of Minnesota research study is partnering with daily traditional cigarette smokers and examining the use of different levels of nicotine and flavor combinations. Ultimately, researchers would like to see if usage of an electronic cigarette will reduce negative effects from tobacco products and improve mood and health.
Additional Information
Why is this study being done?
This study is being conducted to see if using different nicotine/flavor combinations and various levels of each in an electronic cigarette may reduce negative effects from tobacco products and affect mood and responses to electronic cigarettes.
Is this study for me?
You may qualify if you meet the following criteria.

- Daily traditional cigarette smoker
- 21+ years old
- No intention to quit smoking in next 30 days
- In generally stable health
What will happen if I participate in the study?
You will be asked to attend five lab sessions: one where you will use your own cigarette and four where you will sample an electronic cigarette. You will not be able to smoke any cigarettes or other combustible products (e.g. cigars, marijuana) prior to each visit. During the visits, you will complete questionnaires asking you about your mood and your response to the product. You will also have a breath test for carbon monoxide and vital signs will be taken. We will collect one urine sample from you.

Following lab sessions, you will take home all four JUUL pods and a device to sample as you wish for three days. At the end of the three days you will choose one pod to continue to use for another week. You will complete daily questionnaires about how much you use the electronic cigarette pods and your own cigarettes. You will not be charged for these pods.
Will I be paid for being in this research study?
You may earn up to $505 for completing the study and following study procedures.
Will it cost me anything to participate in this study?
There is no cost for you to participate in our research program.
