8-Week Virtual Weight Management Study
Comprehensive program focusing on 4 important components:
• Weight Loss
• Clean Eating

What is the ShipShape Study?
  • The ShipShape study is being offered by researchers at VA San Diego in collaboration with researchers at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
  • The study uses cutting edge, evidence-based methods to promote weight loss, improvements in nutrition, physical fitness, and psychological focus.
  • There are a total of 8 virtual classes, 2-hours each.
  • You will be assigned by chance to either standard ShipShape or ShipShape enhanced with Acceptance and Commitment Training.
  • You will complete 3 assessments during classes and 2 assessments after classes (3 months and 6 months after). Compensation is provided for each assessment.
  • The ShipShape study is consistent with the Navy's ShipShape program but does not meet Fitness Evaluation Program (FEP) requirements.
Is this study for me?
To participate, you must be:
  • Active duty Navy
  • Overweight/obese or have failed or at risk of failing the Body Composition Assessment
  • Not pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • Able to participate in physical activity
  • Able to sign informed consent and complete assessments during and after classes (compensation provided)
What will happen if I participate in the study?
